Immersing Fans in the Blue Hell: An Inside Look at Our Sporting KC Project

At Diamond View, we're excited to partner with Sporting KC! This year marked our second collaboration with the team, and our goal was to craft an experience that would transport fans into the heart of "the Blue Hell"—a term that captures the intense and passionate environment of a Sporting KC game.

Embracing the Brand Culture

Sporting KC's identity is deeply intertwined with their emblematic blue and diamond-themed kit, a nod to the team's rich history and formidable spirit. Our task was to honor this branding while creating a visually compelling introduction video for their stadium. The challenge? We had to devise a way to incorporate the diamond motif without having a physical diamond shape on set.

Our solution was to capture footage of the arch that we built on set, and creatively invert it to form a diamond-shaped portal effect. This design element not only aligned with the kit's aesthetic, but also enhanced the immersive experience for viewers.

Navigating Stadium Dimensions

Given that the video was set to play on multiple screens throughout the stadium, including a prominently slanted main board, we had to carefully consider how the video would be viewed from different angles. Ensuring that no critical visuals or faces were cut off required meticulous editing and spatial planning by our talented team of editors and post production specialists. We aimed to keep the core focus of the video centered and impactful, regardless of the screen’s size or angle.

Crafting Effects and Enhancements

While the visual magic on-screen was integral to our project, some elements couldn't be achieved practically on set. For instance, we were unable to shoot fire effects live, so we brought these dramatic flames to life through post-production. Additionally, we enhanced the footage with elements like smoke and dust, which added depth and intensity to the scenes.

Bringing the Vision to Life

The centerpiece of our project was undoubtedly the intro video. This piece was designed to capture the electrifying atmosphere of a Sporting KC game day and immerse fans in the excitement and passion of their beloved team. From ideation to execution, it was a thrilling creative endeavor that allowed us to showcase the fervor of Sporting KC's fanbase and the glory of their home turf.

In the end, our goal was to create a video that not only met but exceeded the expectations of Sporting KC's loyal supporters. By embracing their brand culture and utilizing innovative post-production techniques, we aimed to offer fans an unforgettable glimpse into the high-energy world of Sporting KC.
